MESSAGE FROM THE 2019 TRIO

On behalf of Seattle Yacht Club, the 2019 Trio welcomes you to join a tradition that dates back to 1913 – Opening Day of Boating Season! Once again, we look forward to having our friends from around the Salish Sea share in a fun-filled week of Opening Day festivities. The relationships we share and the camaraderie that has been built over the years is what makes this event the success that it is. Plain and simple, it wouldn’t be the same without you on Saturday, May 4, 2019!

We can’t say enough how much we appreciate your participation in all facets of Opening Day – whether it is a decorated boat, dressed power or sail, Wilson Seamanship, Club Officers Salute, attending the various celebrations at SYC, rafted up on Dock 0, tied to the Log Boom or standing on shore watching the crew races and parade.

Our Opening Day theme was inspired by our beautiful Nortwest boats, our perfect waters, striking topography and today’s technology.

When the Ballard Locks opened our waters into the Salish Sea in 1916 and the Montlake Cut opened Lake Washington to Lake Union in 1913, our boating world expanded and enriched our lives.  Think about some of the changes we have faced each decade since: the 20’s with a boat building boom and prohibition; the bust of the Great Depression in the 30’s; the war and heartache in the 40’s; the 50’s with the growth of the middle class, the development at that time of devices, gadgets and appliances that made boating more accessible; the 60’s with increased awareness outside our community of music, cultures, and flying to the moon.  Then, the decades of computers and technology that allow us to reach beyond and explore our Salish Sea with such pleasure and ease.

It is our hope that the 2019 theme “Boating through the Decades” will provide for lots of creative ideas for those entering the Decorated Boats category.

We thank you for your community spirit, fun creative ideas, and the richness of your friendship in being a part of this wonderful event – Opening Day – May 4, 2019!
